Department Grade Policy

Students must earn a C- or better in any class that is a Pre-requisite for any CEE course.

Examples of C- Policy

  1. A student is taking ESM 2104 – Statics, during Fall 2013. ESM 2104 – Statics is a pre-requisite for CEE 3304 – Fluid Mechanics. Therefore, the student must earn a C- or better in ESM 2104 in order to enroll in CEE 3304.
  2. It is Fall 2013 and a student is taking CEE 3304 – Fluid Mechanics. Student plans to take CEE 3314 – Water Resources Engineering after Fall 2013. This student must earn a C- or better in CEE 3304 in order to enroll in CEE 3314.

Note: If a student never plans to take CEE 3314 – Water Resources Engineering then this student may meet the requirement for completion of CEE 3304 – Fluid Mechanics, with a D or a D-.

GPA

Remember, students must maintain an in-major GPA and an overall GPA of a 2.0 or better in order to complete their degree requirements. It is possible, to have a D grade for an in-major class, as long as the in-major GPA remains above a 2.0 and the course is not needed as a pre-requisite for any other CEE course the students wants to complete.

  • In-major GPA’s are available for viewing as part of the DARS report (available on Hokie Spa).
  • Overall GPA’s are available for viewing on both the Unofficial Transcript and on the DARS (both available on Hokie Spa).
