How to Get Involved
The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering loves to continue relationships with our students after graduation. Throughout the year, we have many opportunities to reconnect and socialize with fellow alumni. Additionally, alumni frequently visit campus for career fairs and as guest speakers to our classes. If you would like to be involved in any way, please reach out to Courtney Long at firstname.lastname@example.org for ways you can do so. Below are a few of the annual alumni events held by the department.
Annual Golf Outing in Northern Virginia
Each June, there is a golf outing in Northern Virginia. Last year, the tournament was held at Bull Run Golf Club in Manassas. This event is a favorite among alumni as the golf tournament is followed by a reception at the golf club. There is also a social event the evening prior to the golf tournament for those who are unable to participate in the golf tournament. This year, the reception will be held at Bull Run Golf Club on June 3 and the tournament on June 4. Click below for information and registration form.
CE E-Mentor with ASCE
This program will give ASCE members a way to connect with and to seek practical career advice from young professionals. This program will also give young alumni a way to stay connected with their Alma-Mater and uphold the VT values of Ut Prosim in their professional lives. This is intended to be a flexible opportunity that can benefit each participant. Connectivity is very easy now, with resources such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Email and Skype.
The goals fo the CE E-Mentoring Program are to:
- encourage career exploration within the field of civil engineering and
- develop a professional relationship with a young practicing civil engineering alumnus
Both parties will need to commit to one academic semester of participation. This commitment will require, at minimum, four communication points during the academic semester. These communication points can be via any electronic method deemed appropriate; email is likely to easiest method to behin. Mentors and mentees may communicate more often than that if they choose.
If you are a young alumnus interested in participating, email Kara Lattimer at email@example.com for more information.
