| Overall view of environmental engineering with emphasis on hazardous waste management, water treatment, wastewater treatment, air pollution and its control, solid waste management, groundwater pollution and environmental regulations. | | Specific Course Objectives : | | |
- Recognize the major regulations used to protect air and water quality.
- Evaluate the fate of contaminants in natural and engineered environments using mass balances.
- Utilize simple models (batch, plug flow, complete mix) to describe the fate of contaminants.
- Describe appropriate strategies/technologies to produce high quality drinking water.
- Recommend appropriate strategies/technologies to produce high quality wastewater treatment plant effluents.
- Relate drinking water and airborne contaminant standards to the protection of health using risk assessment protocols.
- Describe the indoor, local, regional and global impacts of air pollution.
